Background information

This website distils the funding principles and processes of government agencies in New Zealand and overseas. It was launched in September 2004 to bring together comprehensive information on government practice when funding community and voluntary agencies.

This online toolkit was one of the recommendations in He Waka Kotuia – the 2002 report of the Community-Government Steering Group. The need for the site arose from a number of problems identified in He Waka Kotuia.

  • There was “poor practice right across the board”.
  • It was difficult to find the information as it was not in one place.
  • Information was not transparent.
  • People believed they were following good practice, when in fact, they were not.

The site has been developed jointly by community, voluntary and Maori organisations, government officials, and other funding experts. Additional content is added as it becomes available.

Who is this website for?

This website is primarily for senior managers and officials, advisors, and managers involved in funding policy and practice.  We welcome your feedabck and ideas for improvements.
