Good Practice Funding

This website is a key tool for improving government agency processes and practice when funding community, voluntary and Maori organisations. Each section has a 'related resources' area where you will find case-studies, useful links and further reading. Your suggestions of additional resources are welcome.

Funding Relationships

Good relationships between government funders and community agencies/non-government organisations (NGOS) help to achieve good results from funding. Such relationships need to be built on mutual understanding and respect, and clear expectations of each other. These can be achieved through a mix of relationship instruments such as memoranda of understanding or relationship frameworks.

Funding Options

Funding agreements are tools to enable parties to agree their expectations of each other. Choosing the right tool means choosing from a full toolbox including contracts, grants and letters of agreement all founded on respectful relationships.

Managing Risk

Managing risk is part of all funding whether you are the funder or being funded. Being well-equipped to understand and manage risk is essential. This section looks at how we assess and manage risk.

Monitoring and Evaluation

How well are we doing and how well did we do? Knowing whether you have got what you thought you were going to get is important. Knowing how well you are using government funds is essential. Learning from experience builds our capacity to make better decisions in the future.
